Barcodes are moving!

If you've checked out a new book recently (within the last week) you might have noticed that our barcodes which we always placed on the first page of the book have moved. This is a result of a new policy that the Massachusetts Regional Library System has asked all Minuteman Library Network members to use. The goal is to have all barcodes placed in a uniform part of the cover -- this will help the system move towards an automated sorting system. This will help all users with faster delivery times, it will also make it easier for staff at the circulations desk -- no more guessing where the barcode is. For libraries that have a self-checkout machine patrons will be also be able to find the barcodes easier.
This policy does not ask libraries to retrospectively convert their barcode placement this would be take too much time and also money. So anyway watch for the moving barcodes.
