A library blog strikes me as a great idea. But there don't seem to be many posts. Could it be that it needs publicity? I found out about it accidentally: I was reading a story in the online Lincoln Journal, and noticed another story about the redesigned library web site. In checking it out, I noticed the blog.
Is the library blog intended to be mostly for library news / happenings? Or will it be more free-ranging?
There are a number of reading/discussion topics that I would be interested in pursuing through blogging, possibly with meetings at the library.

You're right about advertising the blog, we just made it "public" last week, so I'm still learning about blogging and what we can do with the blog. As of now we're using it just to keep readers current on what's going on here at the library.
I mentioned to the library director about reading groups/discussion groups and we'll definitely look into it!

A journey of a thousand miles starts with a dead battery and a flat tire.
If you remember, Irene Weigel led a group which was part "course" and part discussion group. It was excellent, and remarkable for the fact that she was self-taught, in the sense of not being certificated by an institution (I hope I have this story right).
What I was thinking about was a variation on the idea: a person would be following a self-directed course of study, say "the role of women in the Abrahamic religions" and want ot discuss with others based on an agreed set of common readings. Part of the discussion could be blog'ed, and part face to face meetings at the library.

Here is a topic that might help new bloggers like me.
When one posts a comment, one is asked to "choose an identity", the choices being Anonymous; name/URL; OpenID (TypePad, WordPress, LiveJournal, and AOL); and Google/Blogger.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of these different things? What are they? Supposedly, Blogger.com is the "grandaddy of blogs"; not clear what this has to do with Google. One of the choices is a subscription service ($5/month), the others are free. It seems like they are all oriented to folks who want their own location, or blogspot, on the web. If anyone knows about this stuff, or has a link to a begginners' introduction, I'd like to know it.
Also, can only library people start a new thread?
I found a book about the First Church in Lincoln in a book recycle bin. I'd like to send e-mail offering to donate the book (it's old), but the Lincoln Public Library website doesn't have a contact e-mail address. Would it be possible to set up an e-mail address I could use for this?

we're going to add our email address to the our home page. we have a link from the homepage to our network on the homepage, its the catalog or the Minuteman Network link both will get you to the online catalog and to that form. thanks for your imput our homepage was just redesigned so we appreciate any feedback from users.
